As a small business, we make choices each and every day that have an impact on the people and environment around us. We pay special attention to these choices and we try our best to reduce our environmental footprint. We look to add value to the lives we touch with consideration of future generations.
As a company that designs, stores, distributes, installs and collects shop fittings, we recognise that our biggest impact is through helping our customers reduce waste, by designing durable and eco friendly products and by helping our customers to re-use, repair or recycle products.
We support our local economy
When Solutions Diverse seeks products and services we use our purchasing power to buy locally and to promote other locally owned businesses. We know that by buying local products we're not only supporting our local economy, but we're also purchasing products that have not travelled far to get to our warehouse. An example of this ethic in action is in a recent decision we made in procuring mild steel locally opposed to a cheaper supplier in South Africa.
For other services such as, vehicle servicing, computer support, legal services, banking, web design, warehouse materials, delivery services, printing, and many more services needed to run a business we use strictly local vendors whenever possible. It is very gratifying to have these community based services provided by people who are deeply proud of their work and care about our community.
We Re-use
Packaging - simply by re-using bubble wrap and foam we eliminate the need to purchase extensive amounts of wrapping. That adds up to 52,000 cardboard boxes a year! This simple move saves countless trees, countless gallons of water, kilowatts of power, transportation emissions all the while cutting our overhead. This move yields a staggering reduction of our global footprint.
We Recycle
- Cardboard: All crushed and recycled.
- Acrylic: Recycled by granulating, before being made into items such as plant pots and crates.
- MDF/Timber: Once returned to our premises it's either repaired and re-used or recycled.
- Metal: Crushed and recycled.
We Burn Less Fuel & Electricity
We now use a Talbotts 150kw wood Burner in our warehouse that replaced our older oil fired heating system. We worked closely with the Carbon Trust working out how we could become a carbon Neutral business and upon taking their advice we quickly learned and benefited our own costs and that of the environment.
We Re-use & Repair Whenever Possible
We carefully maintain our delivery fleet to extend their useful life. And when confronted with the need to buy or replace we tend toward repairing. We buy used whenever possible using something that has already been produced, is readily available and is serviceable is always a better sustainable choice.
We Reduce Our Carbon Emissions
Delivery schedules. One of the areas where we have made great advancements in reducing our emission of greenhouse gasses is in our implementation of group Delivery Schedules. Each day we review our delivery routes to ensure we group deliveries efficiently for Solutions Diverse or partner vehicles to spend the least amount of time on the road.
We Don't Use Landfills
All of our waste is recycled, re-used or disposed of responsibly. We were one of the first design companies to ensure our waste didn't go to Landfills and we are proud to continue.
